“The Lineage of Tathagata” is a series of teachings explaining Lotus Sutra, conducted by Master Dao Yi of Yu Garden in the summer of 2016 in Vandana Monastery’s Main Hall.
[Long ago there was an old Bodhisattva who tied seven scrolls of the Lotus Sutra to his body. Someone asked him: what are these scrolls you are carrying? Old Bodhisattva replied: they are letters from home.
After leaving our original self to wander for decades, “Lineage of Tathagata” is like a letter from home, calling us to return to where we came from. It is like a map leading us to our prime nature.]
Master Dao Yi of Yu Garden delivers a fresh and detailed explanation of the profound messages enclosed in the Lotus Sutra.
Explaining complex concepts in a very approachable manner and delivering a wonderful aesthetic experience, “The Lineage of Tathagata” is a wisdom source for anyone who is craving for it.

Chapter seven: Parable on the Magic City

Treasure seeking, extending to every corner. Buddha says this story is like an endless scroll, with no beginning and no end. The magic city, where all things grow and multiply without and, constantly evolving, is only a short resting point before the greater road which is yet to be traveled. The great philosopher and writer Hu Shih once said :[Lotus Sutra is not just a tale, it is a literary work of art. It contains several parables, which are probably some of the most beautiful ever written].
The magic city is a display of what is to come, suddenly revealed to us by Tathagata. It calls us, wanderers, to take a rest on the road to enlightenment. Stepping into this place will allow us to see the true glow of the treasure with our own eyes. Understand that the ultimate happiness was always hidden in Tathāgatagarbha, we were just too blind to see it…
